Week 3 of the Suffolk Senior League saw leaders begin to emerge in both divisions with Sledgehammers maintaining their 100% record in Division 1 while Kings and Jammers are setting the pace in Division 2.
Sledgehammers visited Lasers and struggled to get going in the first with the home side opening up a 6-point lead at one stage. The visitors finished the quarter strongly to go 2-up but suffered problems at the start of the second with Dan Jones being injured and taking no further part in the game.
Despite missing 8 foul shots in the half, Sledgehammers were still ahead at half time, by 8. It was still an 8-point game midway through the third but again the visitors finished strongly and started the final quarter 18 up. Lasers narrowed the gap to 10 in the fourth but that was as close as it got as Sledgehammers finished with a 17-6 run.
Newcomers Kings have made a good start in the second division and they came out on the right side of a 2-point game at home to Cannons. Kings seemed to have it all wrapped up in the first quarter as they stormed into a 16-point lead with Sam Calver hitting 15 personal.
With Calver quiet in the second, Cannons hit back and narrowed the gap to 10 at half time. Cannons came out firing in the third and hit 13 without reply to take the lead and although Kings rallied the scores were tied going into the final quarter. Cannons edged ahead by 1 with 2 minutes on the clock but the home side finished the stronger with a 9-6 run, despite a Cannons 3-pointer on the buzzer which was deemed too late.
Jammers also have a 100% record as they came away from Leiston with a comfortable win. The home side was having their first taste of league basketball and took some time to get going. From 20 down at half time they took the third to get themselves back into the game. However, Jammers were dominant in the fourth to keep up the pressure at the top of the table. |
