The most recent matches in the Suffolk Senior League saw the leaders in the two divisions continue to dominate with the Division 1 leaders virtually sealing the championship.
Back to back wins for Jammers ensured they stayed at the top of Division 2. At home to their nearest rivals, Kings, they were made to fight all the way. Jammers were ahead by a single point at the end of the first but then 3 long-range efforts from Aaron Syrett in 6 minutes helped extend the lead to double figures. The third saw something of a rally from Kings as Rob Randall and Lloyd Aldis combined for 14 and they narrowed the gap to 5 at one stage. But that was the closest it got as Syrett hit 13 personal in the final quarter to keep Jammers at the top.
Jammers made it 5 wins in a row when they travelled to Tigers, going 9-up in the first quarter. When Tigers only managed one basket in the second, Jammers were able to extend their lead with Ed Merry knocking down 17 personal in the quarter. Jammers continued to dominate the game in the second half and with new signing Bradley Potter hitting 17 in the half, they comfortably maintained their top spot.
Lynx have had a tough first season, still looking for their first win, but their recent close game against Kings showed that they can compete at this level. Kings had the better of the first with the prolific Rob Randall hitting 8 personal. Lynx hit back in the second with James Vincent coming off the bench to hit 11 and at half time the scores were tied. The scores were still level at the end of the third but Kings hit 12 unanswered points at the start of the fourth from which Lynx never recovered.
In Division 1 Sledgehammers virtually sealed the league in their game against Bulldogs. Without leading scorer Gary Gaines, Bulldogs struggled on offence and when Alec Ward hit 10 personal in the first it helped Sledgehammers into a comfortable lead. A combined 18 from the Ward brothers in the second kept the momentum with Sledgehammers and with Jules Keeling chipping in with 11 in the third, Ginge Simon’s team are well on course for another championship. The old cliché about a week being a long time in sport seemed apt in the cup clash between the top two in Division 2. Having beaten Kings in the league encounter, Jammers went into the match as favourites and the sides were separated by just a point at the end of the first. However, 19 points from Rob Randall before half time gave Kings the edge and they went in at the break with a double-figure lead. Another 8 from Randall in the third kept Kings well ahead with only Tim Lincoln replying with any consistency for Jammers. Lincoln hit 24 in the second half for Jammers but it was not enough to get them back into the game as Randall finished on a game-high 33 to put Kings into the next round. |
